The Benefits Of Hiring A Drop Box

byAlma Abell

Drop boxes are little more than a huge metal box; this box is fitted with wheels and is designed to be transported to a specific location on a truck where it will be dropped off. Drop boxes in Portland OR are often seen on construction sites, factories and locations where major renovations to the property are taking place.

Before the order is placed, the customer first needs to decide the size of the drop box in cubic yards and where it is to be dropped. Depending on the situation, there can be a need for multiple boxes on site, one of which will be used for construction scrap and rubble while the other is dedicated to materials which can eventually be recycled.

Drop boxes in Portland OR are available in a number of different cubic capacities; the most popular are 15, 30 and 40 cubic yards although smaller units are also available. The drop box can be permanent or temporary; many companies that generate considerable recyclable scrap such as metal or plastics will often station a box on a permanent basis. The rental company picks up the full drop box against a schedule or on demand and when they pick up they also drop off an empty replacement.

Factories often marry a drop box with a compactor; this is true with companies that generate significant amounts of waste paper and paper products such as cardboard. The waste is dumped into the drop box and eventually transferred over to the compactor where it is baled. The baled material is picked up and delivered to a local paper mill for recycling.

If the drop box has been ordered to support a home demolition or major renovation job it often has to be dropped on the street. Should this happen the customer normally has to procure a permit, the permit will usually state that the box must be identifiable in the night with fixed warning lights as well as traffic cones for both day and night.

If the drop box is being brought to a well-landscaped area or it is to be dropped on a paved driveway the possibility of damage to the surface can be mitigated by resting the box on skids which sit under each corner, lifting it off the actual surface. When the drop box is picked up there will be far less chance of damage.

There is little doubt that renting drop boxes in Portland OR is the ideal way of disposing of construction rubble, unwanted waste and recyclable materials.

Drop Boxes in Portland OR are available in five normal capacities from 10 to 40 cubic yards. You are invited to contact Portland Disposal & Recycling, Inc to discuss dates, sizes and rates.

Police in Texas arrest man eating dead girlfriend

Monday, January 7, 2008

Christopher Lee McCuin, 25, from Tyler, Texas in the United States has been arrested after police found him possibly preparing to eat the body parts of his dead girlfriend, Jana Shearer aged 21. He was also charged with stabbing his ex-wife’s boyfriend, William Veasley, 42.

According to reports, Shearer’s mother was told by McCuin to “look in the garage” where she discovered the mutilated body of her daughter. She then flagged down a police officer on the road.

McCuin called 911 after the mother left the house. According to reports, he told the dispatcher that he was boiling Shearer’s body parts and preparing to eat them. When police got to his home, they discovered one of Shearer’s ears boiling in a pot, and an unnamed piece of her flesh on the kitchen table, with silverware placed beside it. The rest of her body had several “chunks” missing from it, according to the Tyler Morning Telegraph quoting Sheriff J.B. Smith of the Smith County Sheriff’s Department.

Police later found out that McCuin had stabbed his ex-wife’s boyfriend, and also broke into Tyler Custom Openings, a local business, sometime on Friday or Saturday. He started by going to Shearer’s home on Friday January 4 to have a discussion with her, but she was never seen alive again. Before stabbing Veasley, he beat Shearer “with a blunt object, multiple times” to death. On Saturday morning, he arrived at his ex-wife’s home and fought with Veasley, stabbing him. He is currently in critical condition at a local hospital.

McCuin then broke into the Tyler Custom Openings and then went to his mother’s house where he took her to his home to show her what he had done. Although McCuin was inside the house when police arrived, he was able to escape and was chased for a short distance before being caught again.

McCuin is currently being held on a US$2,000,000 bail at Smith County jail.

Canada’s west coast battles high winds

Thursday, November 16, 2006

Currently, there are blackouts, heavy rain, and high winds in British Columbia. Over 220,000 BC Hydro customers have no power. Buildings have already collapsed and trees have been knowed down. Five Vancouver rivers were in danger of flooding, which rain fell at 10 mm an hour for more than six hours at midday.

The steel frame of a four-storey building under construction in Vancouver collapsed. Construction workers escaped injury, luckily they were on a coffee break at the time of the incident. The steel frame crushed cars in a parking lot and missed a truck driver.

Citizens had to evacuate a subdivision of 30 homes. The winds smashed trees into houses in West Vancouver.

“We have some real fears here with electrical problems,” said Captain Rob Jones Cook of the Vancouver Fire Department. “This is impinging on electrical poles and lamp standards. We also have hydro bus lines running down two sides of the building.” The Vancouver Fire Department says they have no idea as to why the building collapsed.

Winds are gusting at more than 100 kilometres an hour (62 mph) in some areas and rainfall amounts of 50 to 130 millimetres.

According BC Hydro spokeswoman Elisha Moreno, the hardest-hit areas are Vancouver, Surrey, Langley, Abbotsford and Mission, B.C. “We’re trying to be optimistic and hoping it’s by end of day today, but there may very well be customers that are into the early-morning hours before restoration,” Moreno said.

Extensive ferry cancellations, road closures, and massive power outages are in effect until the storm ends.

The RCMP have advised people to stay home and off the highway.

The same heavy weather has also affected nearby Washington State, USA.

Naperville, Illinois welcomes home Olympic silver medalist Molly Schaus

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

US Olympic ice hockey silver medalist Molly Schaus returned to her hometown of Naperville, Illinois last weekend. Her travels culminated in a visit on Monday to Spring Brook Elementary School, where as a fourth-grader she set the goal of some day being an Olympian. Schaus’s dream was fulfilled this year during the Vancouver Winter Olympics, when she played for the US women’s ice hockey team and won a silver medal.

As she addressed and answered questions from students and teachers at the grade school, Schaus explained the large amount of work she had to invest to achieve her goals. The Chicago Daily Herald reports that “she has been practicing for three to four hours a day nearly every day for the past year.” She told the students to “make a dream and follow it because you never know what can happen and just have fun with it.”

The nostalgic visit to her elementary school followed a weekend of other appearances in Naperville, including a celebration last Saturday at Rosebud’s Italian Specialties and Pizzeria. Saturday had been declared Molly Schaus Day by Naperville Mayor A. George Pradel, who also gave Schaus a key to the city.

Schaus has not been the only Olympic alumnus to return to the school; figure skater and gold medalist Evan Lysacek returned to his Naperville hometown and spoke to the students at Spring Brook on March 26. “It’s amazing we had two Olympians come to our school. It’s like 1 million to one that they both get medals,” remarked fourth-grader Alexandra Van Cleave.

Schaus lived in Naperville until moving to Massachusetts during her sophomore year in high school, having attended Gregory Middle School for junior high and Benet Academy during her freshman year of high school. After speaking at Spring Brook on Monday, she visited Gregory later that day and then went home to Massachusetts. She is expected to visit the White House with the rest of her team later this year. She will also start preparing for her final season at Boston College.

Is Fannie Mae Homepath A Good Option For First Time Home Buyers?

 • Find Out More About:
 • Quantity Surveyor Melbourne

By Simon Volkov

Fannie Mae Homepath is a government-sponsored home buying program that offers discount-priced foreclosure homes. Buyers can apply for financing through Home Path Mortgage to receive special incentives and low-interest mortgage loans.

Additionally, many of the Fannie Mae Homepath properties are eligible for Neighborhood Stabilization Program grants offered through the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

First time home buyers find Fannie Mae homes attractive because they are often priced 10- to 20-percent below market value. Although foreclosure houses often require repairs, these costs are factored into the purchase price.

One attractive financing feature offered through Home Path Mortgage is the option to apply for renovation loans to offset repair costs. When buyers purchase houses requiring repair work through conventional mortgage lenders they may not qualify for construction loans.

Those who do qualify are often forced to pay higher interest rates and then refinance mortgages into a conventional home loan once repairs are complete. This can add a substantial sum to the overall cost of the mortgage loan.

First time home buyers who have not established a strong credit history find Home Path Mortgage a good option because lending criteria is not as stringent. This program has a minimal down payment requirement which makes it attractive to those who cannot afford a large down payment.

Fannie Mae Homepath homes can make the perfect first home, but buyers should take time to thoroughly research the property and obtain repair cost estimates. The Fannie Mae website provides pertinent information which should be reviewed by first time home buyers who have never undergone the process.

Buyers of Fannie Mae foreclosure real estate will need to obtain preapproved financing before submitting purchase offers. It is important to realize that “preapproved” does not equate to “approved” financing. Instead, it shows lenders how much buyers can afford and reflects they may qualify for financing as long as the purchase price falls within a specific price range.

One consideration of submitting purchase offers for Fannie Mae Homepath properties is chances are high multiple offers will be submitted for the same property. Many of these houses are sold within days after being listed on the Fannie Mae website. It is strongly recommended to submit the highest offer upfront.

Fannie Mae rarely entertains offers for less than the asking price. The only possibility of buying these houses for less than the asking price is if substantial damage is discovered during property inspections that were not revealed when property was repossessed.

Buyers who purchase Fannie Mae homes in communities where foreclosure rates are high might qualify for NSP grants. Each state receives allocated funds annually which must be used to buy, sell, or rehab foreclosure homes which meet the criteria. This is a great way to offset repair costs or reduce the overall cost of foreclosure homes. Interested buyers can review details of HUDs NSP grant program at HudNSPHelp.info.

Fannie Mae Homepath properties can be a rewarding choice for buyers uncertain of whether now is the time to buy a house. Declining property values have scared many people from buying houses, along with financing restrictions.

Only you can decide if now is the time to take the plunge. If so, take time to research availability of NSP grants and Home Path Mortgage financing options. Combining these programs with the purchase of Fannie Mae Homepath properties can potentially yield substantial savings.

About the Author: In addition to being a good option for first time home buyers, Fannie Mae Homepath can be a good choice for investors. Real estate investor, Simon Volkov shares additional information and resources about buying foreclosure homes via his investing website at SimonVolkov.com.

Spokesman: At least 55 dead after violence in Darfur, Sudan

Monday, April 26, 2010

According to Mohammed Issa Aliou, a spokesman for the Rezeigat tribe in Darfur, Sudan, at least 55 people have been killed in the city after clashes with the Southern Sudanese army.

Issa Aliou said yesterday that Rezeigat tribal members were attacked by armed forces near the border with the partially autonomous South Sudan on Friday, as they were looking for water and new pastures.

The South Sudanese army, however, responded by saying that the tribal members were the ones who had started the attacks.

“A company of 120 SPLA [Sudan People’s Liberation Army] soldiers was attacked on Friday night by armed men wearing uniforms of the northern army that were heavily equipped,” said Major General Kuol Deim Kuol, with the southern former rebel SPLA.

Seeds placed in Norwegian vault as agricultural ‘insurance policy’

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

The Svalbard Global Seed Vault, a vault containing millions of seeds from all over the world, saw its first deposits on Tuesday. Located 800 kilometers from the North Pole on the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen, the vault has been referred to by European Commission president José Manuel Barroso as a “frozen Garden of Eden“. It is intended to preserve crop supplies and secure biological diversity in the event of a worldwide disaster.

“The opening of the seed vault marks a historic turning point in safeguarding the world’s crop diversity,” said Cary Fowler, executive director of the Global Crop Diversity Trust which is in charge of collecting the seed samples. The Norwegian government, who owns the bank, built it at a cost of $9.1 million.

At the opening ceremony, 100 million seeds from 268,000 samples were placed inside the vault, where there is room for over 2 billion seeds. Each of the samples originated from a different farm or field, in order to best ensure biological diversity. These crop seeds included such staples as rice, potatoes, barley, lettuce, maize, sorghum, and wheat. No genetically modified crops were included. (Beyond politics they are generally sterile so of no use.)

It is very important for Africa to store seeds here because anything can happen to our national seed banks.

Constructed deep inside a mountain and protected by concrete walls, the “doomsday vault” is designed to withstand earthquakes, nuclear warfare, and floods resulting from global warming. Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg called it an “insurance policy” against such threats.

With air-conditioned temperatures of -18 degrees Celsius, experts say the seeds could last for an entire millennium. Some crops will be able to last longer, like sorghum, which the Global Crop Diversity Trust says can last almost 20 millenniums. Even if the refrigeration system fails, the vaults are expected to stay frozen for 200 years.

The Prime Minister said, “With climate change and other forces threatening the diversity of life that sustains our planet, Norway is proud to be playing a central role in creating a facility capable of protecting what are not just seeds, but the fundamental building blocks of human civilization.” Stoltenberg, along with Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize laureate Wangari Maathai, made the first deposit of rice to the vault.

“It is very important for Africa to store seeds here because anything can happen to our national seed banks,” Maathai said. The vault will operate as a bank, allowing countries to use their deposited seeds free of charge. It will also serve as a backup to the thousands of other seed banks around the world.

“Crop diversity will soon prove to be our most potent and indispensable resource for addressing climate change, water and energy supply constraints and for meeting the food needs of a growing population,” Cary Fowler said.
