Implants are used to replace missing teeth so smiles can be made whole. Individuals can find themselves missing teeth after injuries or decay occur. Unfortunately, missing teeth can lead to issues with chewing and even speech difficulties. One of the primary reasons people seek Teeth Implants in Apple Valley MN is for cosmetic improvement. With this information, individuals will better understand what they can expect from the process.

The Surgical Procedure

The first step in the process of getting Teeth Implants in Apple Valley MN is the surgical procedure. This procedure places the titanium implant rod into the gum socket. It will eventually serve as the root of the tooth, once bonding has occurred. The procedure is carried out in the dental office and is typically done under a local anesthetic. If multiple implants are being put in place, the dentist may utilize a general anesthetic to make the procedure more comfortable for the patient.

Bonding is the most important step in the process of replacing missing teeth with implants. Bonding occurs over a period of weeks and months as the body accepts the titanium implant rod and begins to grow new bone cells around it. Bonding allows the titanium implant rod to become a permanent part of the jawbone so it can act as a normal tooth root would.

Parts of an Implant

There are three main parts of an implant and these work together to ensure the implant will be able to perform as naturally as a human tooth would. The following are the components of the implant:

* The titanium implant base

* The abutment

* The prosthetic tooth

Once all three parts are joined, only the prosthetic tooth shows the gumline. The result is a natural-looking tooth replacement that is meant to last a lifetime. It is important individuals see their dentist on a regular basis for maintenance.

U.S. TV networks look to past for future programming

Tuesday, March 22, 2005

Los Angeles, California — Four of six national television broadcast networks recently wooed potential advertisers for the 2005-2006 season with programming offerings in the new development phase. These included NBC, Fox, ABC and The WB. Two other networks, CBS and UPN, plan to preview their offerings March 24.

After four years of focusing on high-profile reality television, network executives are turning to the past for inspiration on scripted series. Some networks said they are “more consciously aggressive about developing shows” that recall such classics as Taxi and Barney Miller, Craig Erwich, a programming executive for Fox, told USA Today. In the same report, Kevin Reilly, NBC entertainment chief said, “I don’t think the answer has to be that it’s groundbreaking or something you’ve never seen before.”

But at least one ad buyer had reservations about the rear-view mirror technique. “Every network seems to be looking back rather than forward for programming ideas. The reminiscence factor may be good if you are looking for an older audience, but it may not be a way to bring in the younger audiences,” Laura Caraccioli-Davis, senior vice president and director of Starcom Entertainment told Mediaweek magazine.

Leonard Skinner, namesake of rock group Lynyrd Skynyrd, dies at age 77

Monday, September 20, 2010

Leonard Skinner, the namesake of rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, has died at the age of 77. Skinner was a gym teacher and basketball coach and taught members of the group. His death was announced by his son, also named Leonard Skinner, who also said that he was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Skinner died at the St. Catherine Laboure Manor nursing home in Riverside at 02.30 a.m. His son said that he had a bowl of ice cream shortly after midnight. He had been at the home for about a year.

The coach taught the members of the group in the 1960s and was reportedly hard on the students. He later said in a 2009 interview that “he was just following the rules”. He disputed the rumours that he was extra tough on them or that he kicked them out of school.

In later years he opened up his own bar and became friends with some members of the group and even introduced them at one of their concerts in Jacksonville.

More Fiber in the Diet Reduces Stress-Related Digestive Problems

by

Dr. Victor Marchione

Have you heard the phrase prebiotic fiber? No? Well, perhaps you know a little bit about probiotics. These are the friendly bacteria that help your body digest foods.

Probiotic bacteria are not normally found in the human intestine, though, so they often don t colonize well when they re introduced and that s where prebiotic fiber comes in. Prebiotic foods high in fiber are vital in encouraging probiotic organisms to survive and thrive in the human gut keeping your digestive system in optimal health.

Prebiotic carbohydrates are found naturally in such healing foods as bananas, berries, asparagus, garlic, wheat, oatmeal, barley (and other whole grains), flaxseed, tomatoes, Jerusalem artichokes, onions, chicory, greens, and legumes.

Just how beneficial can prebiotic foods high in fiber be to your health? A recent study has tried to answer that very question. Researchers at the University of Florida explored the possibility that bacteria residing in the intestinal tract might influence immune function, especially during periods of stress. Previous studies have shown that consuming certain carbohydrates (prebiotics) preferred by beneficial bacteria might act as a sort of alternative cure for stress symptoms. To further test this hypothesis, researchers conducted a randomized dietary intervention trial in university students.

The research team recruited healthy, full-time students who had experienced at least one cold during the previous year and who were eligible to participate. The participants were randomly assigned to consume a prebiotic carbohydrate supplement or placebo for eight weeks. Final exams were taken during the sixth week of the study. To assess stress level, incidence and severity of illness, and gastrointestinal symptoms, students completed a series of online questionnaires.

The researchers found that stress was related to gastrointestinal problems such as increased diarrhea, indigestion, and pain. Stress level was also associated with the incidence and percentage of days of cold and flu-like symptoms. Consumption of the prebiotic supplement however, decreased the severity of colds and flu at all levels of stress. The probiotic carbohydrate also decreased the proportion of days ill, but this effect was more consistent in healthy-weight individuals than in their obese or overweight counterparts.

The researchers conclude with this bit of health advice: prebiotic fiber supplementation during periods of stress (in this case, final examinations) could reduce symptoms of gastrointestinal dysfunction and cold or flu.

Colleges offering admission to displaced New Orleans students/LA-ND

See the discussion page for instructions on adding schools to this list and for an alphabetically arranged listing of schools.

Due to the damage by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding, a number of colleges and universities in the New Orleans metropolitan area will not be able to hold classes for the fall 2005 semester. It is estimated that 75,000 to 100,000 students have been displaced. [1]. In response, institutions across the United States and Canada are offering late registration for displaced students so that their academic progress is not unduly delayed. Some are offering free or reduced admission to displaced students. At some universities, especially state universities, this offer is limited to residents of the area.

Hope fades for families of trapped Mexican miners

Wednesday, February 22, 2006

Almost 600 desperate family members and others remained camped outside the Pasta de Conchos coal mine near San Juan de Sabinas, in the northern Mexico state of Coahuila where 65 Mexican miners were trapped by a gas explosion around 2:30 a.m. (0830 GMT) Sunday. Some are threatening to storm the mine while soldiers are trying to keep them calm and rescuers continue to pick through the rock and debris with hand tools, fearing that any power equipment might set off another explosion.

The local newspaper’s headline caused panic by quoting one of over a dozen surviving miners who were close enough to the exits to escape: “They are surely dead,” (La Prensa de Monclova). However, Arturo Vilchis, Civil Protection Director, refused to speculate on the condition of the miners, while Javier de la Fuente, an engineering contractor with mine owner Grupo México S.A. de C.V. also tried to hold out some hope.

The men were each supposed to be carrying oxygen tanks, each with a six hour supply, and there’s some hope that they could reach other oxygen supply tanks, or that some air might be reaching them through the ventilation shafts into which rescuers have been pumping more oxygen since shortly after the explosion.

Juan Rebolledo, vice president of international affairs for Grupo México, assured onlookers that U.S. mining experts were on the way, and officials at the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration have confirmed that they’ve sent a specialized equipment truck and several mining experts which should arrive at the mine site on Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile Consuelo Aguilar, a spokeswoman for the National Miners’ Union, called for an investigation into Grupo México’s responsibility for the disaster. Pedro Camarillo, a federal labor official, said nothing unusual was found during a routine evaluation in early February.

Gmail 1st Birthday; Storage capacity increased to 2GB

Saturday, April 2, 2005

NB: this subject is also covered in Google doubles Gmail storage, adds text formatting

Gmail was yesterday officially 1 year old.[1] After last years announcement of Gmail from Google, which was nicely timed for April fools day. This years Gmail bombshell is that there will be a possibility for infinite storage with Google already moving stroage up to 2GB thats what some paid services offer. Rumours do exsist that you can already fill your Gmail account to more than 100% (105% for example) which is not confirmed in anyway.[2] However could be entirely possible as filling Gmail is proving for me and many others to be difficult. There are reports on slashdot of nice new features on Gmail such as coloured text, a full list can be found on Gmail’s help pages.[3]

Why You Should Listen To Nature Sounds

 • Find Out More About:
 • Radiologist Salary Florida

Water flowing over pebbles in a stream, birds calling to each other in a forest, the wind blowing across a pasture, waves lapping at the beach, a waterfall thundering down… When feeling tired, stressed or distracted, you’ve probably used nature sounds to soothe your nerves or help you focus. It’s a growing trend, especially among school-going children. The soothing sounds help relieve the stress of exams, and since they’re listening to these sounds they don’t notice external disturbances and can, therefore, focus better. It’s like meditation, except easier to perform, and you already got the tools to get started

But how does listening to natural sounds help you relax? Researchers atBrighton and Sussex Medical Schooltested 17 people to find out. The process was simple, participants listened to five-minute clips of natural sounds while their brain activity was measured with an MRI scanner. In addition, their breathing, heart rate, attention span and reaction time were measured as well. Their findings were interesting, and shed light on how these sounds help reduce anxiety. Participants listening to nature sounds had outward-directed attention, whereas those listening to artificial sounds had inward-directed attention. What does this mean? In a nutshell, when you’re worrying about yourself, your appearance, your abilities, your attention is directed inwards, at yourself. When you’re thinking about others or the world in general, your attention is outward-directed. Inward-directed attention often leads to rumination and over-thinking, so it’s usually a cause of stress and worrying

The researchers also found changes in the heart rate and autonomic nervous system response. In general, the changes were bigger in people who started out with high stress levels. These findings state hard facts, and cement what people have believed for years. Now that we know nature-based sounds do in fact help, let’s go over some ways in which they do. They aren’t just for stress relief, they have many other benefits as well

1. They help you focus

Whether it’s work, studies or particularly boring paperwork, if you need to block out external distractions and improve your focus, natural sounds are a great solution. They’re more-or-less like white noise in this regard, caf sounds or the noise of a fan, for example, except they’re a little more pleasant. Distractions can be hard to overcome. We’ve all had those days when we simply can’t stop looking at our phone. Even if you turn it to silent, you can see the screen light up with notifications. Don’t try to resist, just play these sounds instead, and you’ll forget about checking your phone in no time

2. They help you relax

The sounds of nature make you feel like you’re out in the middle of a forest, or near a river. You can close your eyes and imagine you’re on a camping trip. The effect is amazingly relaxing. You know how you feel nice and sleepy when it rains? It’s a little like that. These sounds are very soothing, and you’ll feel better within 10-15 minutes of listening to sounds of nature. This is great for when you’re feeling tired or anxious, but also works when you’re upset. All you need is some time to let your brain rest, and these help you do exactly that

3. They help you fix your sleep cycle

Sleeplessness is sadly common in today’s world, with one in four Americans developing insomnia each year. Nature sounds are a great solution. The soothing sounds block out external noises, and the repetition slowly lulls you to sleep and gives you a deeper sleep. Whether your problem is distractions (thoughts), stress or disturbance, these sounds will help you overcome them. Of course, nature-based sounds can’t replace actual medication – so if your problem is severe, you should most definitely consult a doctor

4. They have zero side effects

As long as you follow common sense, listening to natural sounds has absolutely no side effects on either your brain or your body. In other words, there’s just about no way listening to sounds from nature can negatively impact your health. There are a couple of minor things, listening to water sounds might make you have to go to the bathroom more often, for instance, and playing at a very loud volume might cause problems. As I said before, use your common sense. However, there are no actual risks associated with it

5. They are not addictive

Say you listened to ocean sounds for a couple of years and upped your productivity levels. If you need to stop for some reason (e.g., if you don’t have internet), you won’t have any trouble. Unlike other focus aids that slowly make you dependent on them, natural sounds are not addictive. Of course, if you have noisy co-workers or neighbors that like to play drums at midnight you’ll hear those. You won’t avail the benefits of these sounds, in short. But will you experience any withdrawal symptoms? Never. So these were some of the benefits of listening to nature sound clips. However, there are many, many more!

MY EXPERIENCE WITH NATURE SOUNDS

Natural sounds help you relax and focus, have no side-effects, and are very easy to both find, and listen to. Part of its appeal is because of this, there is no downside and it costs nothing to try, so people think why not give it a shot. I felt similarly. My issue was focusing at work and blocking out distractions. I’d disabled notifications and put both my phone and computer on silent, but I still found myself spending hours every week browsing and just checking my email, over and over. I tried classical music after reading about it somewhere, found it too distracting, and finally stumbled across rain sounds. I played them for a couple of hours while working, and the results were great, my concentration improved a lot

I now rarely feel the urge to check my email or messages, because I can focus so much better on what I’m doing. The only difficult part, in my experience, is finding a track you like. If you end up listening to a clip you don’t like for a couple of hours, you might get annoyed and start to think nature sounds aren’t for you. So I suggest you take your time to look around, try a bunch of clips on the weekend while doing some reading, and get an idea of what works for you. There are many categories of nature sounds to choose from

Now, let’s quickly go over the process. It’s really rather simple – just pick a soundtrack you like, adjust the volume till you’re comfortable, get comfortable in your bed, or chair, and then lie back and listen to the sounds. Try to imagine the sounds as coming from around you. In other words, move yourself from your home or office to a forest, or beach, or riverside. In 10-15 minutes you should start to feel better. Nowadays you can listen to these natural sounds wherever you are, with the help of your phone and an internet connection. You can also find sounds of just about anything on YouTube, which you probably already have installed on your phone
